California Rare Fruit Growers

California is home to some of the most productive fruit growing land in the US and the world, so it is natural that an organization dedicated to the promotion of rare fruit cultivation would start up there. Since 1968 the California Rare Fruit Growers, Inc. has encouraged public interest in fruits and edible plants that are not common in commercial production and now has members in over 35 countries worldwide.

CRFG is the largest amateur fruit growing organization in the world. The group's focus is on rare and exotic food plants for the home landscape, but members range from hobbyists to researchers and commercial growers.

The group publishes a magazine, The Fruit Grower and other materials on rare fruits as well as organizing community events and education projects. Their website offers information pages on many fruits that may be new to visitors. Cultural information is available online and through the organization. A perusal of the winning photos from the annual Fruit Shoot Contest is definitely worthwhile for the website visitor.
