Coffee's Genetic Code Unravelled
Brazilian scientists have identified the 35000 genes that make up the genome of coffee. Researchers will use the findings of the two year government study to develop superior new coffee strains.
Brazil's agriculture minister, Roberto Rodrigues, said the new strains would be developed by cross-pollination, not through genetic modification. Findings of the research will not be released internationally for at least two years.
