UTown@UBC Nature Club

Make new friends while getting to know your human, plant and animal neighbours!

Join us the last Saturday of each month to learn new skills through interactive hands-on activities. You’ll then have an opportunity to explore the UBC campus and practice what you have learned with a fun monthly adventure.

Program Schedule

A FREE program for campus residents, these two-hour sessions are designed for children 5-12 years old accompanied by an adult (not suitable for preschool-aged children).

Soil Creature Safari – April 26, 2014

Location: UBC Botanical Garden

Explore the hidden secrets of the forest floor. On this soil safari we will delve into the shady world hidden beneath the garden beds, and learn about the network of creatures that make their living by smuggling food through underground tunnels.

Garden Genealogy – May 31, 2014

A rich society of powerful plant families is often seen spending time in the Gardens.  Explore the roots of a tree’s family tree, and learn how to spot celebrity members of the most famous flower families! 

Summer Survivalists – June 28, 2014
Time: option 1: 10:15 a.m.  |  option 2: 1:30 p.m. (same program content)
Location: UBC Botanical Garden

Summer is the best time of year, but just because the weather is warmer and the skies are blue, it doesn’t mean life will be easy.  Compete with your campus neighbours to be the best survivor, and learn what it takes to be a successful garden survivalist.
