Young Explorers Summer Camp

REGISTRATION OPENING MID MARCH

Come to the Young Explorers Summer Camp this year! If you love nature, are curious about biodiversity and wish to explore new territory, this is the camp for you! Our camp is a great chance to spend a week outdoors, learn about the natural world, participate in a variety of activities and play games with new friends. Our base camp is at the 44.5 hectare (110 acre) UBC Botanical Garden but we will also discover other amazing sites on the UBC campus such as the Beaty Biodiversity Museum, Nitobe Memorial Garden, UBC Farm and UBC Aquatic Centre.

Young Explorers Summer Day Camp is a weeklong summer camp for children aged 7-11. Our age-integrated camp has the older children act as mentors for the younger kids. All participants benefit from contributing and learning together though different activities and challenges are readily available for individual needs.   The camp can accommodate a maximum of 30 children per week with a 1:10 staff-to-camper ratio at all times.

The UBC Botanical Garden is dedicated to educating the community about biodiversity and conservation and to raise awareness about environmental issues.

We have two great programs to choose from:

The Eco Explorer program is an exceptional way to investigate the remarkable link that humans have with the environment.  We will explore how different cultures interact with nature, learn about wild and cultivated foods, and discover how to effectively and safely cohabitate with wildlife.  Activities include forest scavenger hunts, photo safaris, cooking, wild plant tasting, and off-site excursions to the Beaty Biodiversity Museum, Nitobe Memorial Garden and the UBC Aquatic Centre!

The Garden Explorer program is an amazing way to discover different tactics and tricks to become a friendly gardener! Be prepared to get your hands dirty: catch squirmy insects, conjure up some (almost) magical potions, and cook up a storm with weird vegetables!  Making compost tea, wildlife gardening, water conservation, plant needs and surprising plant allies are just of few of the topics in this program.  Visits to the Beaty Biodiversity Museum, the UBC Farm and the Aquatic Centre are some of the excursions on the menu!
