Botany Photo of the Day will have brief written entries on weekends, holidays and my vacations from April through September. – Daniel
Sea palms are one of the few algae covered in-depth on Wikipedia: Postelsia palmaeformis. Like Pelvetiopsis limitata, it is found from the coasts of northern Vancouver Island to the coastal waters of mid-California.
This is the last photograph in the current series on algae. For the definitive photograph of sea palms, see this image of sea palms by Wynn Bullock (one of my all-time favourites).

Wynn Bullock's is an interesting image, but I can honestly say I prefer yours. And it's not just that my right-brain is poorly developed, either. This is a beautiful photograph.
I would just like to say that I was the one who wrote that wikipedia article. Your picture is outstanding. It saddens me that all of the outstanding pictures of Postelsia are copyrighted, because the article is currently missing a taxobox image. There are plenty of drawings, which are used, but only one free use picture, which isn't the best of quality.
