Beautiful, I wonder if it has any "healing" properties like aloe vera...

Don't know if this is an issue - but the entire University of California system has a strict non-professional photography policy anywhere on their campuses. When the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden staff see me photographing with a tripod, they always stop me and make me verbally confirm my photography is for private use only. I've removed my UC Berkeley shots from the BPotD Flickr pool because of this. Blogs with advertising are still a grey area when it comes to 'professional' use of an image.
This is a really cool-looking variety. Here in Tucson, aloes and other succulents must be grown in the shade. I have the regular kind of aloe, but it's still good for burns and the hummingbirds love the flowers. Mine have recently finished blooming and one of them has pods. Do they come in male and female?
What an interesting form this plant has! It's almost 2-dimensional, the way the leaves fan out in a flat plane. I'd love to see one of these 'in the flesh'.
