Arbutus menziesii

From December 16, 2006 to January 14, 2007, Botany Photo of the Day is going to be featuring photo abstracts posted with little or no scientific commentary. If abstracts aren't to your taste, please consider revisiting the site in mid-January. – Daniel

I've tried so many times to capture the sumptuous colours of arbutus. I can stop now. It's been done. Thanks for the photo of the day, every day. My apologies for following the haiku with mere prose!

When we were kids we used to collect the exfoliated bark, soak it in water to dry flat and use it as paper. It is one of my favorite trees.
