Arbutus menziesii

Arbutus menziesii

From December 16, 2006 to January 14, 2007, Botany Photo of the Day is going to be featuring photo abstracts posted with little or no scientific commentary. If abstracts aren't to your taste, please consider revisiting the site in mid-January. – Daniel

Juliane commented:

I tune in to get a plant fix. There is no recognizable botany or science in this photo, or most of the recent series. I didn't sign up for a modern art new age photography group - I signed up for a botany group. I'll delete the module from my page; please remove me from any mailings.

Daniel Mosquin commented:

Juliane, I don't see a need to defend this photograph (or indeed the entire series) because I gave two alerts in the three weeks prior to beginning the series, as well as an italicized reminder at the beginning of every written entry in this series that this is not the usual BPotD fare.

I offered an alternative to you in yesterday's comments.

You are welcome to return to BPotD on January 14 when I'm back from my “writing vacation”, and the science aspect gears up again.

As an aside, you are not (and were not) on any mailing lists from UBC, since you seem to be subscribed to BPotD through an external company.

Beverley commented:

The current series of photos that you are displaying encourages personal interpretion and introspection and no doubt allows you to display your creativity in a different form while giving your appreciative audience pause for reflection at this particularly meaningful time of year.
Thank you so very much for all that you do.

'Tis the season for open hearts and open minds, is it not? So...

Thanks for the great images! All of them! This latest, I am uncertain as to what it is or how it was made but that stops me not in enjoying the colors and shapes. It is organic and interesting, and therefore pertains does it not? Really...may this new year bring greater compassion and understanding among people and be that much closer to Peace On Earth.- Charlotte

Today is my birthday- thank you for the lovely gift!-Ann

This is one of my favorites sites, AND I'm loving this temporary twist. Great work!

Cyndy Henderson commented:

It's always a pleasure to open up the BPotD, and fun to see what was there a year ago! Happy Holidays, Daniel, and all the best to you in 2007.
