Paeonia delavayi and Iris sibirica 'Tropic Night'

Paeonia delavayi and Iris sibirica 'Tropic Night'

Only a short entry today – at the garden, we're in the process of preparing for next week's annual inventory of the collections, so time is short.

Père Delavay's tree peony was previously featured on BPotD, but here it is joined with the Siberian iris cultivar, 'Tropic Night'. I find the colours in the image harmonious, so it seems an opportune time to link to colour characteristics and colour harmony (via Pantone), “The Theory of Colour in Science and Art”, and the Virtual Colour Museum.

Photography resource link: Tips galore for new to semi-experienced photographers at Digital Photography School. The tips are currently categorized under “Composition”, “Travel” and “General”, but I suspect more categories will emerge as the site grows.

Very interesting. I love this flower. Like to know where to find it and what name do I ask for? Flower-Paeonia delavavi, Iris sibirica "Tropical Night".

Elizabeth commented:

I wonder, Are these tree peonies as tolerant to poorly drained soil or standing water as irises traditionally are? What sort of water resiliancy do they have?
Thanks!

Thank you for the links on theory of colour - I managed to retrieve after viewing this my copy of Rossotti's
Colour: Why the World Isn't Grey,
which I haven't reread since it was published.

Daniel Mosquin commented:

Sorry, all - I'm deluged with emails right now.

Lenora - yes. You might also want to specify that the Paeonia delavayi have red flowers, as it comes in other colours.

Elizabeth - I've no idea. I'm not a horticulturist. That's really a better question to ask on the garden's discussion forums.

Karla, you're welcome.
