Magnolia stellata 'Waterlily'

The Urban Forest Ecosystems Institute's SelecTree Guide from California Polytechnic State University has a detailed entry on Magnolia stellata 'Waterlily' with more photographs. The plant in the photograph was recently moved to UBC Botanical Garden's front entrance garden.

My fathers favorite!
So white are the blooms, he claims, that they glow in the dark... Almost as if the petals contained the white phosphorous of crashing waves...

According to Callaway, WORLD OF MAGNOLIAS there is a 'Water Lily' that was introduced by Hillier Nurseries in 1973 that is distinct from 'Waterlily'. This in turn consists of at least three clones of differing characteristics.
