This entry of Botany Photo of the Day honours Judy Newton, who is officially retiring today from UBC Botanical Garden. Judy worked at the garden for seventeen years, and ended her career as the garden's education coordinator. She will be sorely missed, particularly for her warmth and spirit.
When I asked Judy what plant she would like on Botany Photo of the Day for her retirement, she replied “Dierama” (they are in full glory in the alpine garden right now), so here's one for you, Judy, though the photograph was taken last year, I must admit.
I could write more about this plant, but it would pale in comparison to the account written recently by Hugh Glen of KwaZulu-Natal Herbarium for the South African National Biodiversity Institute. Check it out: Dierama reynoldsii.

It is absolutely beautiful. Good luck to you, Judy!
Congrats grama! :)
(though I told you such already)
