    Hello,
    I planted a red maple seed in september, and during the winter, the tip of its trunk got burned.

    Now the leaves are starting to grow, but the trunk tip is still burned, and it is not growing "vertically".
    I also noticed that the tree is growing really slowly. It's 7 months old and only 3 inches tall.

    I bought the right soil for maples, i water the tree everyday, i place the pot on a place with direct sunlight during all day... I don't know whats wrong with it.
    What should i do? Any help would be great!

    I attached some pictures of it so that you can see how it looks like.

    1/ Unable to see your attachments:

    2/ "Red maple"? Acer palmatum? Which cultivar?
    Naming it would help. There are hundreds of "Red maples" ;-)

    3/ for lack of pictures we can see, it's hard to say, but:
    3.a) either you want to keep it small (bonsai-like) and in this case you can wire it
    3.b) or it's bound to be a garden tree, in which case you needn't worry, the growth will be upward and resume the natural habit of the tree in a few months;

    It lost it's central leader is all. Very common in seedlings, and nothing to worry about as it is obviously healthy. It will either make another on its own, or you'll have to train one in, look in any basic pruning book.

    Good looking maple. And you are correct, "Red Maple" is indeed the common name for Acer rubrum... :) But since most posters don't know that they refer to any "maple that is red" as a "red maple", which is probably why Alain asked for a little more info.
