I have recently moved to a home with 2 large cedar trees in the back yard. This summer one is turning brown while the other is green? What is happening? Would you recommend I have someone take a look? I don't want to cut it down if I can nurse it back to health!!!!! ATTACH]84535[/ATTACH] Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you very much!!!
Already dead example of a garden form of Chamaecyparis lawsoniana, probably with root rot. If so, you may soon lose the other one also - species is even being affected in the wild.
Thank you for your quick response.... Would you recommend that I take down the other tree too or wait and see if it gets the "rot" ? Thanks!
Hire an ISA certified arborist to deal with the situation. Those so designated will indicate as much in their ads etc.
Re: HELP!! My Cypress Tree looks like it is dying? Ditto to Lawson's Cypress Chamaecyparis lawsoniana (not cedars), likely affected with Phytophthora root rot. I'd keep the second specimen, as long as it doesn't show any symptoms. Individual specimens vary in their susceptibility to Phytophthora, and this one may well be more resistant.
