Transplanting Arbutus
I need to transplant an Arbutus that is about 41/2 feet tall. Is spring the best time to transplant?

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

Arbutus menziesii are very difficult to transplant. They are very prone to disease, which enters cuts or breaks in the roots, so you should dig a large rootball, trying not to cut the roots. It is possible though. See this thread:
