    Chlorogalum pomeridianum:

    Soap Plant or Soap Lily or Amole: foothills of Sierra Nevada Mountains.
    The flowers open around dusk. During the day, the plant
    closes its blooms up tight and looks almost dead. They are
    pollinated by a nocturnal moth.
    Native Americans used the crushed bulb to make a soupy lather,
    hence the name.
