I have a pieris - not sure what kind - but over the past year its leaves have gone pale to the point where they're almost blanched out. It gets part sun and part shade where it is right now however I'm concerned that it won't recover. Should I consider moving it?
Just wondering if you have tested the soil. Maybe you have alkaline / neutral soil. Pieris need acidic soil to thrive, or they will become deficient in iron and nitrogen. http://apps.rhs.org.uk/AdviceSearch/Profile.aspx?pid=239 See this article on chlorosis in plants. http://urbanext.illinois.edu/focus/chlorosis.cfm From your pic it looks as if your Pieris is growing in grass. Shrubs and trees benefit from a circle of bare soil around them, so that there is no competition for nutrients. It would also enjoy a good deep layer of composted bark around it. (make sure that it doesn't touch the main stem) http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgu...mage_result&resnum=6&ct=image&ved=0CB8Q9QEwBQ
Thank you for your feedback! The soil moisture appears to be good and there is no grass surrounding the plants just some fir needles. I tested the soil and it appears to be bang on neutral and moist. There are some other pieris bushes across the yard and they seem to be doing just fine. I scanned in some of the leaves attached and I don't see any bugs.
