Slime mould designs urban transport system
An interesting article about employing myxomycetes:

I think they need a union tho' - remuneration is only in oat flakes!

Yes, but to a slime mould, oat flakes are the goods.
Fascinating!
As Hercule Poirot would say: It gives one furiously to think, n'est-ce pas?

Good point - and a lot could be accomplished with just one oat flake :-)

Re: Slime mould designs urban transport system
Hmm. Makes me think of fractals...the way in which trees grow, the way cell phone antennas are configured...whoa. Heavy-duty stuff to contemplate.
As we used to say back in the day: Everything IS everything.
If we can submerge our human egos and simply observe, we will see that nature has already provided the answers we seek.

Re: Slime mould designs urban transport system
I was just reading an article about slime mold (mainly the Many-headed variety)....about how it's send out the 'fingers'...then fill in with the munchers. I believe it was discribed there as a city map. :o)
