pony tail palm

I've hade this plant for about 30 yrs now,and it's stricly indoors.Recently the bulb on the bottom has sort of drawn itself in and there seems to be very little roots left or active.I've attached pictures if anyone can offer advice on what can be done to save the plant.

Thanks
