Identification: Can anyone identify this red mushroom?

    I found three of these in and around my flower garden this weekend. They smelled like decaying flesh, which is how I found them. I was trying to locate what I thought was a dead animal. I am not a mushroom enthusiast and was hoping to find out what these were, read a little about them and see if they are rare.

    If the picture did not come through, it is roughly globe shaped, 4 to 6 inches across, bright red and spongy, with about 20 brown spots that are wet and oozing a very stinky liquid.

    Clathrus ruber or other closely related species of Clathrus.

    Thanks Michael, that must be exactly what it is. Apparently hard to erradicate according to some other info gathered.
