I have a beautiful crab apple tree in front my house. Recently I notice that some of the tree branches have developed some kind of fungus, I guess. Could someone here help me to identify what type of fungus it is, and how to treat them? Thanks.

Here are a coupe of pictures illustrating the fungus the tree has:

James, I think that what you have is a lichen growth on your crab apple tree.
(Daniel; Frog? Shouldn't this thread be in 'Fungus and Lichen'...?)

I am fairly sure that the lichen will not harm your tree. If you really want to remove it, the fungus and lichen folks out there can advise you if this can be done safely (for both you and the tree). I'd say just leave it alone.
