Wildflowers: Not Datura, not cucumber - what is it? - Cocklebur!

    Many prickly fruits were recently on display: Datura, cucumber. But this, probably, neither of them. I do not see a large calyx at the base of the fruit. And inside (was hard to cut it with a knife) it contains just two black seeds. What it could be?

    Wow! Thanks, David! How in the world they could assign this beast to Asteraceae? Aster, indeed!

    Sometimes sold for porcupine eggs!
