I am about to construct an in ground root cellar for food storage. With this, I need to plant some good keeper varieties! And soon, as it takes so long for fruit to bear!

Any suggestions of what to try? I hear there is one Asian pear that keeps nearly a year, but I haven't found it available (oh forgot the name, Korean giant possible??)

Any other ideas greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I keep standard Kiwi fruits (the fuzzy kind) in a cool room built into my basement. After being harvested in November, they usually stay firm until at least January or February.

In Z6 here, there are at least 2 kiwi species hardy here, and I will try them, maybe they keep too. Thanks!

If you're referring to Actinidia arguta, I've grown 3 varieties of these; and they all ripened and turned soft long before the end of October. These were definitely not good keepers. However, there may be some other species of hardy Kiwi that will be better keepers.
