Eucalyptus dalrympleana - fast-growing specimen

I posted this in the the Outdoor Tropicals forum, but I'm posting it here as well, as it could be of interest to people in the Pacific Northwest.

This is Arthur Lee Jacobson's (Trees of Seattle) 86' tall Eucalyptus dalrympleana. The tree was bought from Burnt Ridge Nursery and planted in July 1992, literally coming as a seedling out of a milk carton. So it's only 17 years old!

Arthur specializes in growing plants that either have fragrance or have edible parts. Eucalyptus nitens is even faster - a group in a garden near Oxford (south-central England) were

"planted trees 45cm tall in April 2002. These put on 1.5m of growth in the first year, 3m in the second and 5m in the third, and by 2006 were 16m tall, forming magnificent straight trunks" (New Trees, p. 352)

16 metres in 4 years . . . not bad!!
