Good day. I am a new forum participant, and have come across an odd looking plant in the interior of BC (near Shuswap) in the woods, several clumps of these were at the foot of a tree. I dont know if they are a strange type of fungus or some other such thing, but my curiousity has gotten the better of me and I simply need to know what it is!

I dont know if the attached photo will help (I apologize for not having the actual head of the 'flower' in focus). THe plant was approximately 6-8 inches in height as I recall. We saw 4 clumps of these each with several 'stems'. First time I have ever seen them during hiking/woodland trips.

I hope that someone can help, and appreciate the feedback!

Had a look on the net and it is an interesting plant indeed. I shall consider myself fortunate to have come across it! Thanks again for your assistance.

Yes I thought after seeing some of the other images that it might not be the same plant, but I found this web link that shows a version of the plant with the same colouration as the one we saw. Here is the link in case you are interested.
