Here is a couple of pictures taken with my Nokia 3650 camera phone of my A. palmatum Mikawa yatsubusa yesterday (4-22-04). It was a little windy and there were a few clouds. Doesn't take the quality pictures that my Olympus camera does.

Since purchasing one about a year ago, this has quickly become one of my favorite cultivars.

Here is a closeup of the fall color on my `Mikawa yatsubusa', taken last November.

    Best regards,
    Carl

Great tree, I have it placed under the shadows of other bigger trees. I hope it doesn't get swallowed up in the future.

Mikawa Yatsubusa is an unostentatious, dignified and spectacular star for the garden. It's an architectural plant of great beauty amd subtlety, and a favorite of mine. It is a natural for bonzai.

Ok everybody, this is my 1st post on UBC, so here I go! Mikawa Yatsubusa is one of my most favorite maples out of all of them. I just got it this year, and already, I can't wait for it to get bigger! I love how the nodes are sooo close tog. that you can't barely see the stems - that's one unique trait you won't find in many plants. I got it from Gum Tree Farm - the website's <www.gumtreefarmnursery.com> The guy's very friendly and the plants look great! Mine's about 8 inches tall. And the cost -- you're not going to believe this -- was $9! I really like this variety and HIGHLY recommend this one to anybody that wants a good, quality tree!

Certainly this is in my Top Ten list of Japanese maples. The tidy habit, the neat overlaying of the dense grouping of leaves, and the lighter green new growth all make this maple a star. This bonzai is about 10 years old, and this photo was taken April 12, 2008.

That's really pretty! I certainly like it as much as you; it's a great plant for a small garden. David

Well this tree takes much of the blame for my maple obsession. Its one of those trees that has an instant gratification appeal with that bonsai look right out of the box!

    Hey K4,

Here is a picture of mine this May. I don't remember exactly when I took it. It is showing the slightly lighter new growth on top of the older growth--and water droplets too! Second is spring leaves just emerging.

Ok so I know this is outta season...but I was just going through some pictures from earlier this Spring and I had to share this one. This is why I sit outside in 40 degree weather watching my maples change day by day. I just love this ribbon effect of the early Spring emergence. Can't wait to watch it again next Spring. The pic to the side is what it looks like now...

Thanks Paxi, I'm not really sure how old it is. I've had it for 2 1/2 years now.
It's grown about 6" in that time, and most of that came in a summer growth spurt
this year. The tree is about 36" tall. One of my favorites because of it's spring show.

Each April I have my camera battery charged at all times so I can capture the rapid spring growth of Mikawa Yatsubusa. Each day it evolves and grows. The first photo was taken April 1, 2008 and the second photo was taken April 9, 2008 of the same plant in southern Oregon. What a lovely transformation.

    Hi Mapledia,

Yours looks a whole lot like mine, actually! Mine splits into a V as well. Mine is a little burned (had it in too much sun early on this year) but it'll be beautiful next year. Keep the pics coming and I hope to see some fall color soon!

Mapledia, great pics. Gotta luv that lemon green color of the new spring growth.
Well, we're all coming into Fall. North of Seattle that means up to 6 months of
grey days to look forward to. Oh boy. Well, Spring will be here soon enough.

This is possibly one of the slowest Acer that we grow. Planted in June 1997 it is still a beautiful compact dwarf. Pic 3 was taken on 12th November, yet still no sign of any autumn colour.

On 12th November I took a pic of Acer palmatum Mikawa yatsubusa, with the comment that it showed no autumn colour. Today, 20th November, really late in the season it has turned! Most of our maples have been bare for a while.
Hope you like this pic too Kaitain!
