My story is probably more interesting than the plant :-))
My mother sent me a package in the mail. It had a zip-lock baggy inside that contained a wet towel and a piece of a plant. See the image(s) attached for what she wants me to help her identify. Her plant is on a sun porch in Central Florida. I live in Upstate New York. I'm not sure, but I'm thinking that this plant isn't found much up here in cold country. (I could be wrong.)
Anyway - can anyone tell me what this plant is, so I can stay on my mother's good side. I'd appreciate it.

It looks like it could be a Cleyera japonica.

I searched Cleyera japonica on the internet and it appears to me to be a woody plant. This one is sponge-like (I don't know technical terms, but am learning a lot from browsing this forum) and it is happily growing in the baggie it came in.
