grape vines

I would like to know if grapes need to hang or can they set on things such as lattis' with only 1.5 inch squares undernieth them.

They can sit on a lattice but as with most "off-the-ground" fruits, that contact point can be an opportunity for some of the mildews and fungus maladies to take hold. They also have a mind of their own and may drop thru or weave in and out of such a support, not that is necessarily a bad thing.
