Agave Identification Help

We purchased this 'cactus' 5 years ago at a nursery, with no name tag. It decided it should bloom this year, and we would really like to know what type of plant it is. I'm assuming it's in the agave family, but what type??

First picture taken March 11, second March 13, third March 28.

Thanks for any help,
Susan

Re: Agave Identification Help

I thought maybe it looked like that too, but all the info I find about it says that it pups freely, and this one never has. I have enough Century Plants to cover most of my neigborhood, but the one in question has never sent up a pup in 5 years. Do you think it could possibly be havardiana?

Re: Agave Identification Help

I think your probably right with havardiana.......now i wonder if i maybe have a cross between the two, mine looks like havardiana, yet it sends up dozens of pups.

great cactus garden by the way, i have lost parryi (if it is parryi) and americana variegata to frost and winter wet here, but my americana just about survives winter outside.

I've just been looking at all the Agaves listed in the plant finder
There's one called Agave parryi var. parryi (no descriptions in plant finder unfortunately)

Dont forget to save some seed from your havardiana :)

Re: Agave Identification Help

If it will help any, I got on a ladder today and took pictures of the blooms that are about to pop out of the stalk. The top of the stalk is currently 84 inches above the ground.

Re: Agave Identification Help

Parryi has numerous creamy yellow flowers, pink- or red tinged in bud.
