I will soon remove a long branching stem of E. coccifera, where it is overhanging a path.
It is about 12+ft long by 6"/15cm diameter. To see this tree and details of its bark, look in the Alpine Garden section of these forums. I would rather not just throw it away.
Can anyone think of a useful purpose for it? Is it good for carving etc?

Euc. wood has a terrible tendency to check and split as it dries: if you're contemplating using it, you might try sealing the ends of the piece, and putting it somewhere dry but rather cool to season: in this regard, it is very similar to arbutus wood....tempting form and texture to use for archways and trellis, but short lived if not properly dried/seasoned.

Thanks. Years ago I cut some long trunks of an old Syringa, discovering as I did that the interior had a lovely purple heartwood. I put those stems in a barn to dry, intending to create something memorable. However, due to my inexperience in how to properly deal with curing, the wood split terribly, beyond my ability to create from what was left.
