There are a few threads around on cherry lookalikes, but not one listing the possibilities in one place. Here are some names and links to threads in Ornamental Cherries and other forums on this site.

If you've mistaken something for a cherry, you can help out our scouts and the public by contributing a photo to this thread.

Plum, cherry plum - Prunus cerasifera, Prunus salicina
Small white flowers with narrow petal stalk?

Apple and Crab Apple - Malus species
Apple - singles, white with pink, green leaves, very late cherry season
Crab Apples – red buds, white blossoms, green leaves, late cherry season

    Pear - Pyrus species
Pear – upright shape, small single whites, green roundish leaves, mid-season

Viburnum - Viburnum x Bodnantense (I get lots of comments about this one)
Viburnum x Bodnantense - not a cherry, tiny pink clusters, very early

Maple - Acer rubrum, or a hybrid, such as Acer X freemanii 'Jeffersred' (none posted in error, but I've had private emails and comments from friends)
