Hello everyone! New member here. Love gardening, and so glad I found this site!

I have a plant ID question. This thing grew this summer, and put out the pictured pods/berries if you will, absolutely filled with white seeds. The pods are about the size of a cherry tomato, look like a tiny watermelon, and have a strong "earthy" smell when split. The plant is a low growing vine, with prickly stems. Its strange, I have never seen anything like it. I saved the seed pods just incase it was something worth keeping.

Conditions it was growing in - clay soil, as I live in Georgia, very wet location, full sun.

    Thanks so much!

Ditto to Solanum carolinense. Nasty spiny plant, can cause nettle-like skin rash on some people; fruit poisonous. Often considered a weed.

Thank you so very much for the replies! I will get rid of it. I had a feeling it might have been a bad one! LOL! After reading up on it over at Wiki, after you told me what it was, this plant is a mean one!! Wow!

    Thanks again!
