I was in the Van Dusen over the weekend and saw two iris species, one of which I know I have seen at the UBC BG, and I was hoping to get help in identifying them. The first sort of seems like a cross between Iris sibirica and Iris ensata: https://picasaweb.google.com/110047270912178347197/20120603VDBGUnknowns#5751101931778396850 The second, which I remember from the UBC BG, is very striking, and like nothing else I've ever seen before: https://picasaweb.google.com/110047270912178347197/20120603VDBGUnknowns#5751101955033396130 TIA!
The first might be one of the Siberians that has been modified by artificial selection to have a flatter flower. The second is a Japanese iris, maybe even the Iris ensata you mentioned.
