I planted some espalier pear and apple trees last year, and need some advice maintaining them. It's April here in Northern California (San Francisco Area) and I don't want to "mess them up". Thanks!

    Hi,

Your tree is called in french "Palmette horizontale à trois étages" which could be translated "Three store horizontal palmette".

You should keep the stems at the end of each store upright
Only keep three eyes on each lateral shoot to promote the spur (flower bud) growing
    Cut all vertical shoots.

If you're not sure, ask the help of a local gardener.

    Hope this helps.

    André
