    Hi -

We've recently moved to a new (old) house and have been working on the backyard. My oldest daughter discovered these "bird's eggs" by a lemon tree we recently relocated. I was doing some gardening in the same area a few days ago and these weren't there. They seem to be growing 3-4" below the surface. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Fungi of some sort, possibly stinkhorns. See how they develop over the next few days.

I'd expect these to be puffballs.
