Wild shrub identification

    I travel the trails along the Trans Canada Bike Trail and have come across the this shrub and it doesn't show as well in the photo's but has a purple color hue to it. I am wondering what the shrub is and are the berries safe to pick.

    Looks like chokecherry (Prunus virginiana) to me, which is edible to my knowledge.
