    Hello
I am 2nd year gardener and did not see this type of damage last year.

    Photo 1
It is on hibiscus and basically whole plant....other plants next to it seem untouched (for now at least)

Photo 2 Friend or foe What is this little guy resting on (or eating ) the dahlias. Do I name him or stalk him?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Possibly Japanese or some sort of beetle damage in photo 1? Looks like a grasshopper in photo 2, but beats me as too what it truly is, never noticed one of those where I live.

Thanks for viewing....I saw another one of the bugs again yesterday talking to my tomatoes. I have looked myself at insect charts etc and have not found it (yet)....off to do a search on beetles and treatments.
    Great Gardening to you,

What a wonderful site, I think it is Melanoplus borealis. I am now going to identify a beetle I found today on my roses.

Thank you for the site!! I will be lost for days there.

Quick update: Guess I know what a japanese beetle looks like now.

Sure looks like a member of the japanese beetle. They will destroy everything.

Desire2Know:I have the same problem with my hibiscus, but have found that the culprit is a small green worm which I pick off every day but with limited results.I have no idea how or where they come from, but have had this problem every year since planting the hibiscus next to HollyHocks.
