I am experiencing a fungi in my yard. It started a few months ago in one area of our landscape and now is appearing in another area. You can see from attached how it looks when it first surfaces. It dries into a "flaky" substance after a few days.

I have never seen anything like this during my 15 years at this address. This past spring I put down some new mulch from a landscape company I have used during the last 15 years with no issues.

Anyone have any idea what it is and how serious it can be? Thanks!

Yes, slime mould . According to Wiki no longer in the kingdom of fungi. From my experience harmless.
