I bought some Pink Lady apples that were nice looking and blemish free. Some tasted delicious as they should while others had the sweetness but were bitter tasting. In the latter case the flesh had an evenly brownish tinge. Otherwise nothing else seemed unusual. What is the cause of the bitterness? Is there a way to distinguish between the sweet and the bitter from only outward appearance?

Please be aware that several varieties of apple are being sold as "PINK LADY" (in Australia at least) this is why the apple doesnt always look and taste the same in Australia.....some are quite red and have a very different flavour. I dont know what is happening in your situation Junglekeeper

Thanks for the reply. I had forgotten about this old post. I'll make a note to look at the label affixed to the apples should I encounter this again.
