I have a Washington Navel Orange Tree which I planted in March of 2008. It is 3' high and has aluminum foil around the bud union since it's planting. I've noticed the foil separating due to the trunk's diameter growth. How long should I keep the bud union covered and should I recover it now that the weather is getting colder? Thank you.

You could have removed it a year ago. Aluminum foil is applied on occasion only when the graft is freshly new for sun protection. Someone should have removed it a long time ago. - Millet (1,176-)
