I removed some large thorns off of my rosebush, after it destroyed my son's new soccer ball. Hopefully my son will be more careful in the future. I was wondering, will this be harmfull to the rose bush?

It won't hurt the rose bush as long as you didn't leave wounds that invite invaders or seriously damaged the cambium layer.
