I planted a bunch of sweet woodruff under our hemlock tree 2 years ago, and it has been really healthy, like an evergreen carpet.

It bloomed this spring and now, it looks like it's covered in a white powder. It's turning brown and wilting, and can easily be pulled from the ground.

What is going on? And what should I do with it? Thanks for the help!

    - also, located in Vancouver, so I would assume it's not a lack of water at this point.

It is difficult to say for sure from these pics, but it looks like it could be downy mildew. Downy has been devastating to Sweet Woodruff here in Ohio this spring. I have seen big mature patches just blackened...like it was lit on fire.
