    Two-fold question:

We have a holly shrub about 5' high and around 4' across in the place we are moving into. Unfortunately there is some digging work that *must* be done which might disturb the plants and shrubs we have growing nearby. Should we bother to try moving the holly? If it can be moved, it will have to happen immediately.

If no, and we go for a new one to replace it, what is a good variety for east Vancouver BC (zone 8, if I recall)? We'd like something that either grows to or can be maintained at around 10' and with a dense growth.

    Southern exposure best?

When is a good time to plant, and where can we find nurseries that carry shrubs of a good size in the Greater Vancouver area? (edited to ask: also, can the nurseries be hired to plant said shrub? My back won't be up to digging.)

Thank you so much, in advance!

If this is Ilex aquifolium it's a weed in this region anyway. You can replace it with any number of other kinds of shrubs. Fall is the best time for planting hardy plants. But the selection is not what it is in spring and early summer.
