I recently moved to Courtenay from Quebec, bringing 120 hostas with me (another 120 to follow!). They are all in a temporary bed now. The area in which I want to make new beds is deep sand. Will topping the sand with 18 inches of good earth/compost work!?
    Any advice is greatly appreciated....

It looks like you are creating perfect conditions for your hostas. Be careful though not to make the top soil over-rich. Too much of a good thing is not a good thing.

..."too much of a good thing is not a good thing". If you are coming here from Quebec, you might find that this applies to Hostas :). They provide me with lots of compost matereial every year.
