I have a 3-4 year old grapefruit tree that I grew from a seed and it's been doing quite well up til now, but suddenly the leaves on the top half have started to show signs of wilting. They are curling slightly and appear slightly dried up at the ends. It recently made a 3 hour trip via car with me from home in CT to my dorm in Boston and on the way into the building it got blown around a bit by some very cold winds (maybe 10 degrees F). Is there anything I can do to improve it's chances at survival, or do I just have to wait and see what happens? Thank you! ~Julia
I think the tree is reacting to the exposure to the cold as you suspect. Since the leaves show signs of damage I speculate they will not be able to transpire as much moisture and so would consider cutting back a bit on the water. Even if the leaves eventually drop, there's a good chance the tree will sprout a new set as long as the stem remains green.
