I am in Central Illinois and I have some cuttings from this fall pruning of a friend. Is it still safe to plant even though it will be July soon. I had to wait for my land to be cleared but I have 130 cuttings I would like to put in the ground.

If it was coconut I would know exactly what to do...LOL

It's a poor time to plant as the heat will encourage the top growth before the roots have a chance to support it, but on the other hand storing the cuttings till next spring isn't a great idea either!

Can you start them in an enclosure of some sort where they can be misted for 4 weeks or so then harden them off and put them in the field in mid August?
