13 July 2006. The plants are contained by a reinforcing concrete wire trellis, depending upon how much effort is taken to train the vines. The last five days I picked about 8 per day of the size shown. They are almost perfect in shape anad size for the table. Even the odd large one, that I miss on some days, is very good eating. All are firm and crisp.

It rained heavily yesterday, and cuccumbers will produce many fruits on the following two days.

My greenhouse cucumbers used to be excellent. We had one that was 5 lbs. Now they fail when the tiny fruit starts growing. They have split stems, and the leaves are mottled or look burnt.I used to grow them in large containers in the greenhouse.I have tried growing mediums, potting soil,compost...but nothing helps.I have tried 20-20-20,fish fertiliser,seaweed-all without success. I installed a humidifier because it is dry here. They plants seem to be attacked by spider mites so they are very stressed. But why?I cannot discover what has changed that has upset them so much. The peppers also have to struggle more, but they grow well enough outdoors. The tomatoes are fine.Rainwater instead of tapwater doesn't seem to help a lot either. I am now trying a few Oriental cucumbers to see if I can get a crop.Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted.
