I am a home owner in Richmond Hill, Ontario. I have a 35 foot tall 75 CM DBH, Black Walnut tree. The bark is coming loose on one side of the tree and I want to fix it. Before I remove it I wanted your advice on how to best deal with it.

I am attaching some pictures so you can assess the situation. It is getting near fall but thought it was better to prune and fix the issue now than summer but welcome your insights.

I also have green stuff on one side of the tree and not sure if I should deal with it too.

    Thanks in advance,
    Bali

I'm thinking it might now come apart at the point of decay, it having three trunks all intersecting there - which may be why it eventually rotted out in that area in the first place. Issues like this are best addressed by engaging tree experts to give informed opinions on-site.
