Would you recommend that I plant an Arbutus tree in my garden? The sprinklers go on every morning for 10 minutes. Will that be too much water for the tree survive for years to come?

Plant away! BUT try to plant out of the reach of your sprinking system if possible.

    Cheers, LPN.

You might want to look into a different watering interval anyway. Sogginess is generally undesirable, if you were watering 15 minutes every afternoon you would almost be duplicating rainforest conditions.

You don't say which arbutus you are interested in, but since 'Marina' is produced under presumably normal (heavily irrigated) nursery conditions in California that would probably be a good choice for a watered garden.
