    Hi Everyone,

Can anyone identify the following tree? Pictures 1 shows a wider shot while Pictures 2 & 3 are close-ups of the same tree. This tree seems to be very slowly growing leaves and buds at this time of the year. The leaves and buds have a brownish purple colour.

The tree is photographed on Burnaby Mountain. However, I have only seen trees of this kind in landscaped areas, and not at all in the wilder parts of the mountain, so I'm guessing the trees were brought here from other places.

    Thank you!

    Jason

Can you get photos in two weeks? Everything is so much later up there than in the city. There are a few possibilities.

The flowers on this tree have indeed blossomed (please see pictures 1-3)! Would this be the prunus kanzan?

'Shiro-fugen' cherry. The flowers seem to be going from white (you can see a very light bud) to pink, whereas 'Kanzan' start dark pink and fade not entirely to white but to a lighter pink. These have those nice long stems too.
