Hi, I would really like some help identifying these 2 plants. I have uploaded the photos using PICASA, so if you follow this link you will be able to see them: http://picasaweb.google.com/1110479...?authkey=Gv1sRgCKuWgt_uufDjFQ&feat=directlink The blue one I photographed at the Aberdare National Park (in Kenya) the other is on my verandah (also in Kenya). I believe they're both natives... The blue one certainly is. Thank you so much to anyone who can shed light on this for me!
The one on your verandah is an orchid; looks like a Sobralia of some sort to me - it's a fairly tall cane, no? If I'm right, then it is most definitely not a native to Africa - it's a New-World Tropics flower (and a weed in some parts of Ecuador). I couldn't tell you offhand which species it is, or if it's a hybrid. I'm not sure about the blue one (although it's stunning!) - my first guess would be Larkspur, but I'm likely wrong on that one.
